How it all started...
Wesley United Methodist Church was founded in 1899 when a small group from the River Street Japanese Methodist Episcopal Mission in Honolulu started a branch mission on South King Street. Services were conducted in Japanese until 1933, when an English language service was added. In 1946, the Mission on South King Street was christened “Wesley Methodist Church” and adopted the slogan, “the friendliest church in town.” The growing congregation expanded its facilities and moved to its present location in Waialae Kahala in 1964. Today, Wesley United Methodist Church continues to extend a warm welcome to people of all ages, nationalities, and genders to ” the friendliest church in town.”
